Anchor [now by Panasonic] electricals, switches, wall sockets reviewed

This is one of my unusual posts, a quick rant. I shall give you a quick review and information about Anchor electrical plugs and switches (Anchor recently got taken over by Panasonic).

They make the most PATHETIC switches and electrical wall sockets in the world. In the last ten years I have gone through at least 10 wall socket plugs and 5 different switches of different Amperes ratings. Almost each and every wall socket in my house is faulty.

Every wall socket has a mechanism in it to retract the plastic safety sliders inside. The flexible metal spring pins that works this mechanism almost always get in the way of the hole into which the plug is supposed to enter!

This makes it really difficult to put in two pin plugs and they sometimes go in only half way or unequally into the plug. This results in a loose contact and thus you need to wrestle a bit with the plugs, say of a mobile charger, before it gets a good contact and starts charging the mobile. Even then, the slightest of shake can make the contacts loose again, and you realise an hour later that you mobile has not been charging the whole time.

Almost every plug/switch in my house has been changed at least once. In the case of switches, most of them melted! I had to change the switch from a 13A to a 15A rating and that switch also melted. Finally, after putting in a 21Amp rating switch, did it hold it's ground.

This switch was used for a water heater! 15Amps should have been enough, especially since Refrigerators give same load if not more.

And if the switch did not melt then the switch toggle mechanism would stop working and the switch would always come back to it's previous position once you took your finger of it! In short never ever buy Anchor brand of electrical and switches.

I hope Panasonic can improve their line of products (Panasonic is usually known for it's quality products) I would suggest you go for Havells or Legrand.
